Zocalo: Spoiler-free Discussion of “Falling Toward Apotheosis”

While figures long regarded as godlike reveal themselves to be petty, the petty aspire to godhood. And that, Charlie Brown, is the true meaning of the episode title. Or whatever. Look, here, have a spoiler-free discussion thread.

(The thread descriptions can’t all be winners, OK?)

  1. I’m going to disagree with our hosts and say that the somewhat formal dialogue in B5 doesn’t bother me at all. These people are two hundred years in the future, as far from us as we are from Jane Austen. It seems natural to me that they use different speech patterns and conventions.

But I’m middle aged. What do new viewers of B5 think of the dialogue, and the previously discussed slow courtship between Sheridan and Delenn?

    1. I haven’t finished the podcast, but I’ve heard that bit. Personally, I’m not as bothered by “your sweet face” as our hosts are. I can absolutely imagine saying that under these circumstances – actually I have said things like that under circumstances well short of this.

But what this obviously shows is that I (and Hugh) are individuals possessed of fine sensibility and a sensitive romantic disposition. While our hosts are obviously dead inside. 🙂

      1. Now, now…Chip will attest to the fact that I am the most dippy romantic ever. I would have been very happy with some other adjective in the place of “sweet” – it’s just not a word I ever imagined Sheridan using other than describing his coffee or being applied to Delenn.
