Zocalo: Spoiler-free Discussion of “A Race Through Dark Places”

We have two back-to-back strong Talia episodes, but the real plot to this story is all about Sheridan and Ivanova being charged rent, am I right? Let’s talk about “A Race Through Dark Places” here, but please leave the true five-year significance of the rate hike to the spoiler thread, OK?

  1. Don’t have anything to add really that was not covered in the podcast but I just wanted to mention that the actor who played the lurker telepath guy with no name was also in the original Stargate movie. I can’t think of a single reason that is important but there you go

    1. THANK YOU. I’ve been idly wondering where I knew that guy from since his first appearance! I love Stargate (the film), so it’s no wonder he made an impression on me.

So yes, that is an important piece of information–to me, anyway. 🙂

  2. Generally a good episode, and it’s interesting to see how much more thoroughly developed Bester is from his much flatter (but also much more alienating) portrayal in Mind War.

But I do wish that the underground railroad had been better seeded. Finding out that Dr. Franklin was in charge of the enterprise would have had a lot more impact if we’d known it had existed before this episode.

    1. True. It seems to be hinted at that Garibaldi knew about it long before this point, but denied it when Sheridan asked. I’m thinking of the Earharts scene and I wonder too, how long Garibaldi suspected Susan of being in charge of the rail-road. There’s some comfortable body language between them in Earhart’s too. He has his arm out behind her, she’s smiling at him, a lot. She’s tipsy, yeah but there’s a little flirting going on between them, out of the friendship of two familiars.

  3. This is really where Bester becomes Bester, and I love it. The rent situation was a bit hockey and I enjoyed it a lot more in previous watchings but was still good fun.

As per the hosts, I recall fondly on my initial watching being suckered completely by Talia & co’s ruse on Bester. Love swerves like that 😀
