But hey! Londo’s crisis was as serious as a heart attack! What’d you think of that, and of Lennier’s departure? Leave the spoilers in the other thread, please…

I was very much looking forward to this character study on first viewing. I didn’t get what I thought I would as it manages to get so much more ensemble story in, while relaying Londo’s fever dream with so much Lynchian quality. Bravo.
As someone who remembers the original broadcast and VHS tapes, I think this episode suffers a lot from the conversion to wide screen. So many dramatic closeups with the top of the head chopped off.
And there’s the dream conversation between Vir and Londo. Just two characters against a solid black background. And, um, the end of the boom mike on the right edge of the picture.
But I’m old. Do these things bother other people?
I didn’t even notice the boom mic!
Maybe that was a Franklin surgical-scope 😀
Ambassador Mollari with the rope in the cellar – what a great episode! Jurasik plays it anxious as a child who does not understand and belligerent as one who does not want to. In each scene (practically) he’s called on to give this same reaction yet each time is compelling in his delivery. He or the director should probably have an award for this. The whole cast and film crew are magic. Furlan’s tarot reader, Boxleitner’s Black Lodge-esque changes, Katsulas as emperor and Furst, who looked broader, upright, almost as if the Cartagia scenes had been re-staged with Vir standing where Londo might have been placed.
And that, Lennier, is why “this is the calling of my heart” is a terrible basis for making decisions. It assumes that the heart is a wise and reliable moral source. Take it from this psychologist, buddy, the heart is deceitful and selfish.
