The series proper begins here! And if you’re watching it for the first time, or if you promise to be really really good, this is your spoiler-free space to discuss Season One, Episode 1, “Midnight on the Firing Line” in advance of our next B5AG episode next Sunday.
I’d just like to say I’m really enjoying this podcast and it has successfully gotten me into Babylon 5. I watched the Gathering around three weeks ago and somewhat hesitated on watching any more for a couple weeks but after Midnight on the Firing Line, it picked up a lot more. I’ve been watching an episode or two a day now and hope to eventually catch up to the spoilercast.
Just started another watch through of the series, this time with my 12 year-old son (& my wife who has seen it through already), so I’m re-listening to the podcasts as we go along!
Hearing the discussion on the CGI space battle – my son, who has been raised on Pixar and recently enjoyed both the new Star Wars films – was really excited and impressed by the raider/Starfury battle. It was ‘awesome’, apparently, and he loved the spinning round and shooting moves.
It was great to see that the effects still work for his generation (based on a sample of one, obviously).
This may seem like sort of strange question but, being a music buff (particularly 80’s pop/rock), I couldn’t help but notice the cool pop/rock song playing in the background in the bar at the end of the episode (scene between Susan and Talia) but I really liked it and, to this day, I can’t make out enough of the lyrics, nor have I been able to figure out if this was an IRL 80’s-90’s pop/rock song that they got the rights to and simply threw in for background noise in the bar or if it was something that Christopher Franke composed and put in the show for background noise. The music sort of reminded me of something that Mr. Mister/A Flock of Seagulls might have done but I’ve never been able to pin it down. Anybody notice this song and/or have any additional information? There was no episodic CD produced for this episode AFAIK and neither IMDB nor Lurker’s Guide have anything about this.
