“Soul Monkey: The Single”

Soul Monkey (A Babylon 5 Parody in the Style of JoCo)

God help you all, a few of you seemed to like it, so here’s “Soul Monkey” in all its glory as a digital single.

“Soul Monkey (A Babylon 5 Parody in the Style of JoCo)” is based on Jonathan Coulton‘s song “Code Monkey,” which was released under a Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC 3.0), with new lyrics and vocals by Chip Sudderth. You can buy Coulton’s music at his web store.

  1. I started transcribing the lyrics, but after confusing “burlap” for “mullet” and “barely make it out alive” for “very naked out of line”, I thought to check the MP3’s ID3 tags. And there the lyrics were! And so here the lyrics are:

Soul Hunter get up, take spaceship
    Soul Hunter go to job
Soul Hunter fly to meet his buddies
    Soul Hunter in a mob
Soul Hunter know ambush by human fleet
    Mean a bumper crop
Dead heroes gotta be collected now
    He can never stop

Soul Hunter find Minbar’s greatest leader
About to die, no time to waste
Soul Hunter had big chance, but missed
    Because Minbari are pissed

    Soul Hunter’s gone crazy
Soul Hunter can’t wait for you to die
    Soul Hunter very simple man
With big burlap bag full of souls
    Soul Hunter take yours
    Soul Hunter take youuuuuuuursss…

    Soul Hunter brothers getting worried
    Soul Hunter really nuts
Soul Hunter killing bad for business
    They want him to discuss
Soul Hunter say, No thank you, busy now
    He just saving time
    Just living’s terminal anyway
    Is it such a crime?

Soul Hunter get answer from pulse cannons
He try to dodge, his ship is hit
Soul Hunter barely make it out alive
Soul Hunter run to Babylon 5

    Soul Hunter’s gone crazy
Soul Hunter can’t wait for you to die
    Soul Hunter very simple man
With big burlap bag full of souls
    Soul Hunter take yours
Soul Hunter take yours, for chat

Soul Hunter make a lot more trouble
    Soul Hunter tough and mean
Soul Hunter played by Morgan Sheppard
    Not played by Martin Sheen
Escape from Medlab with a stolen gun
    Grab a lot more crap
    He sneak contraptions by security
    Did they all take nap

Soul Hunter get thwarted by our hero
Soul Hunter hoist by own petard
Soul Hunter end up in glass ball
Soul Hunter now feeling real small

    Soul Hunter’s gone crazy
Soul Hunter can’t wait for you to die
    Soul Hunter very simple man
With big burlap bag full of souls
    Soul Hunter take yours
    Soul Hunter take yours

  2. This is great! I’m hoping there will be more of the same. I would love to see, musically speaking, a Babylon 5 version of the much beloved, and musical, The OodCast.
